ABOUT LIA MARSON

Lia Marson is the founder and owner of Say it in Spanish. She was born and raised in Argentina, where she taught elementary school, then studied law at the University of Buenos Aires. After arriving in Toronto she worked as a translator for Confederation Life, a large life insurance company with several branches in Latin America. She was also involved in the areas of systems and business analysis. She enrolled in the Spanish program at the University of Toronto and now is completing her degree in Adult Education at Brock University.

For the past five years, Lia has successfully taught Spanish at private language institutes, at Seneca College and recently in corporations. She is convinced that her unique and varied combination of education, work, and life experiences has prepared her well for her latest endeavor: helping adult students learn Spanish in an unfailingly interesting and exciting way.

Student Testimonials

“Having experienced other language teaching methods and programs from university to private schools, I was pleasantly surprised by the responsiveness, professionalism and flexibility that studying with Lia Marson offered. It cannot be stressed enough the benefits of learning a language from a native speaker. Besides the fluidity of speech, subtle nuances of language can be conveyed. I was impressed and benefited greatly from Lia Marson’s ability to answer my specific professional needs.”
Anthony Wild, Director, Toronto Research

“Lia was able to balance the need to acquire the important basic elements of grammar and vocabulary with a broader insight into the cultures of Spanish speaking people around the world. In the five courses that I took with Lia, she sustained a level of energy and enthusiasm that is essential to any teaching environment but is particularly important to teaching a language. With different levels of understanding in the class, she could still retain the attention and interest of all the students. Finally, she always had a great sense of fun that made the classes all the more enjoyable than simply trying to learn how to conjugate a verb or learn a new word.”
Vic Hepburn, Seneca College

“I have had many language teachers over the years. None of them have been as talented or effective as Lia Marson. She has been consistently creative, organized and inspiring. In the classroom she had a wonderful enthusiastic manner that kept the students interested and entertained. She took a personal interest in us and this motivated us to do more work for her than most of us would normally do for another professor.”
Thomas Ponniah, Doctoral Candidate, Clark University, Massachusetts

“Lia's classes are always entertaining and informative. She employs a great sense of humor in her teaching and encourages class participation. Lia treats all students with care and encouragement, no matter what their level of Spanish proficiency. Perhaps the best thing about her classes is that she goes beyond the prescribed curriculum by introducing exercises to stimulate conversation and by bringing in current events materials related to Hispanic culture. All of these things make learning under Lia's guidance an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”
Peter Knight, Seneca College

“Since I have been an educator specializing in linguistics for many years, I can evaluate Lia Marson’s teaching style as being extremely motivating, interesting and challenging, never boring. Her choice of supplementary material in addition to the required text was current and of interest to the adult students in the class. She had a good rapport with the students and a caring attitude.”
Blema Steinman, Seneca College
